To Potential Sponsors of the
Alberta Stroke Conference

Stroke is the number one cause of acquired long-term disability in the adult population and is the fourth leading case of death in Canada. It is the most common neurological disease requiring admission to hospital. Stroke survivors often live with significant disability. In the province of Alberta, there are approximately 5,500 documented new stroke cases each year and at present 25,000 stroke survivors.

The good news is that major advances have occurred in stroke care over the past decade and there are now a number of highly effective stroke prevention and treatment programs and interventions available. While Alberta is a leader in stroke care, our goal is to further improve outcomes and reduce the number of strokes in this province by increasing access to evidence-based care for all Albertans. Education of health care providers and transforming evidence to practice is an important part of this goal.

The Alberta Provincial Stroke Strategy, a partnership between all nine health regions, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, NWT & Nunavut and Alberta Health and Wellness, would like to draw your attention to an upcoming corporate sponsorship opportunity. The first Alberta Stroke Conference, “Transitioning Evidence into Practice”, will be held from October 30th to November 1st, 2008 in Canmore, Alberta.

The conference program is in the final stages of development but there are a number of key features:

  • Delegate demographics: Physicians (family practitioners, ER, and internal medicine), nurses, rehabilitation professionals and assistants, and other allied health workers
  • Speakers are highly regarded professionals in the field and come from local, national and international destinations
  • Poster presentations
  • Full day pre-conference workshops
  • CME Accreditation (application in progress)

Attached is an outline of corporate sponsorship benefits. We believe this is the first in a series of stroke conferences in Alberta that will continue to grow in size and significance. Your support will provide benefits to your organization as well as the attending delegates.

If you are interested in sponsoring this inaugural event, please respond as soon as possible.

We look forward to your participation.
